Preparing for a Korean Wedding with My American Husband, Part 1: Budget, Venue, and Studio-Dress-Makeup Timeline

🌏 Life in Korea | Living with My American Husband 🌏 Language: 🇰🇷 KR | 🇺🇸 EN We’re a Korean–American couple who got married in Korea  May 2024 . We decided to hold only a Korean ceremony, while celebrating separately with our U.S. family with a nice dinner and photos later. Because of that, the entire process followed Korean wedding customs , which felt quite foreign to my husband. It was my first time, too, but I at least had some idea of what to expect from my friends and family. He, on the other hand, had never been exposed to how that process works in Korea — so everything felt new. For anyone preparing a wedding with an American or otherwise-foreign spouse unfamiliar with Korean wedding culture , I’m sharing our full wedding timeline and practical tips by stage based on our real experience.

[Daily Writing] A Letter to Myself 20 Years Later | Question #658 from “712 More Things to Write About”

Dear Miyeon in 20 years,

Hello, it’s 12-year-old Miyeon here. You must be 32 now, right? Wow, over thirty! I wonder how different you are from me now. Maybe you live in Seoul? I hope you’re a cool, confident career woman. I’m curious what kind of work you do, whether you got married, and if you have kids. (Though I kind of doubt it—you probably haven’t married or had children yet, right?)

These days, my life is pretty ordinary. I’m about to graduate from elementary school and start middle school, which feels both strange and exciting! Most of my close friends are going to schools in the city, so that worries me a little. Will I make good friends in middle school? I really hope I do! 😂

Hmm... I can’t really picture what life 20 years later looks like. What do you usually do for fun? I chat with friends on Buddy Buddy, lie on the wooden floor staring at ceiling patterns, and watch Japanese dramas on the computer!

I bet you’re working hard at something you enjoy. Do you travel abroad a lot? I dream of becoming someone who travels around the world for work someday. It just seems so cool! Also, I’d like to live somewhere bigger than Icheon. I do okay here, but if I went to a school in the city, I’m not sure I could keep up. Still, I want to live in a bigger place where I can see and learn more. It’s a little scary to think I might fall behind—but it’s better to be there and try to race to the top than to stay still, right?

I also wonder if you’re happy. You’re over thirty now, so definitely a full-grown adult, right? 😄 You’re me, but...I feel like after 20 years, you're probably almost like someone else entirely. I hope you’re less anxious, good at your work, and respected by the people around you. If your job makes you happy, maybe marriage can wait. Honestly, I’m not even sure I want to get married. Marriage and kids must take so much time and energy... Do you still think like me? If so, I'm guessing you really didn’t get married! 😂

Writing a letter to myself felt awkward at first, but now it’s kind of fun. It makes me curious and excited about you. I’ll keep growing and doing my best, so please become the wonderful adult I dream of being. I’ll always believe in you and cheer you on. Fighting! ♥️
