Preparing for a Korean Wedding with My American Husband, Part 1: Budget, Venue, and Studio-Dress-Makeup Timeline

🌏 Life in Korea | Living with My American Husband 🌏 Language: 🇰🇷 KR | 🇺🇸 EN We’re a Korean–American couple who got married in Korea  May 2024 . We decided to hold only a Korean ceremony, while celebrating separately with our U.S. family with a nice dinner and photos later. Because of that, the entire process followed Korean wedding customs , which felt quite foreign to my husband. It was my first time, too, but I at least had some idea of what to expect from my friends and family. He, on the other hand, had never been exposed to how that process works in Korea — so everything felt new. For anyone preparing a wedding with an American or otherwise-foreign spouse unfamiliar with Korean wedding culture , I’m sharing our full wedding timeline and practical tips by stage based on our real experience.

Do Newborns Normally Do This? Bibi Ate All Day and Barely Slept

[11/29 (Sat) · Day 4 with BB]

Unlike yesterday’s “wet wipe incident,” today BB ate almost nonstop. It felt like he was feeding all day long.

During the morning rooming-in time, from 8:30 to 9:30, he was latched almost the entire hour. He had supposedly just finished a bottle, but he still wanted more.

Two hours later, around 11:30, I got another feeding call. He nursed for about 40 minutes combined on both sides. Maybe he didn’t get enough yesterday. Still, seeing him eat well made me feel relieved.

But then, two hours later, another feeding call came. I could hear his crying loudly from inside my room. He nursed for another 30 minutes or so. People say newborns sleep a lot, but BB seemed to spend his whole day eating instead of sleeping.

During the evening rooming-in session, he immediately started nursing again and stayed latched for more than an hour. By the end, even when I tried to latch him again, he burst into tears—his whole body turning red. I panicked and called the nursery, and the nurse came right away. She said BB was still hungry but wasn’t getting enough milk, and she brought formula for him.

As soon as the formula was offered, BB ate well... and within just five minutes, he fell asleep from exhaustion. I’ve heard that sucking is hard work for newborns, and after feeding for over an hour, he must have been completely worn out. My heart ached watching his struggle. I kept wondering if he was extra hungry today because I couldn’t breastfeed properly yesterday.

After BB went back to the nursery, I sat alone in the room and my mind started spinning. Newborns are so tiny and fragile that it scares me sometimes—like even one mistake from me could overwhelm his whole little body. I also felt so sorry for him. How hard must it be for such a tiny baby to use all his strength just to express his needs?

For now, the only thing I can do is try to increase my milk supply. I looked up ways to boost milk production on YouTube—eating well, breast massages, pumping consistently after direct nursing, and more. Starting tomorrow, I’ll try them one by one. I really hope BB can enjoy breastfeeding more comfortably tomorrow.
